Celebrate IB

The school had our first ‘Celebrate IB’ event last Wednesday. The purpose was to celebrate the progress of the Year 13 students in the core parts of their International Baccalaureate Diploma, particularly CAS and TOK and give the younger students a flavour of what IB students do.

Alan Murin was an amazingly charismatic host of the event. He was entertaining and energetic. Sakshi, Michal and Daniel from Year 13 gave Theory of Knowledge presentations and really demonstrated the high level philosophical argument that the students engage with at IB Diploma level. There was also a very entertaining magician and our special guest speaker Mr Miroslav Wlachovsky, the advisor on Global affairs to the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic who spoke about Slovakia’s progress, the need to think critically and to act with integrity. Miss Williams ended the event with prizes for those Year 13 students who have really excelled in their CAS over the two years of their IB Diploma.
The younger students in the school did very well to listen to the speeches and understand what was being said. After the main event the Year 13 students enjoyed a Chinese buffet and three different workshops (Cocktail making, self-defense and magic tricks) which will be good preparation for university life!
