Year 8 Vienna trip

Who brought coffee to Vienna? What did the medieval streets of Vienna look like? Whose music did the Emperor Franz Joseph like more - Strauss or Mozart? Answers to these and even more questions were found out by the Y8 German students on their German trip on Friday, 13th May to Vienna, and all of this in German.

Located in the old monastery cellar of St. Michael, right next to the Hofburg and twelve metres under ground, our students followed the rich history of Vienna. The Time Travel Museum offers an excellent view into the city’s history in a literally breath-taking way. We gasped as we soared over the rooftops in our horse-drawn fiacres; we shuddered as plague-ridden rats wriggled around our legs; and we trembled as the WW2 bombs fell around us whilst the time machine brought us almost up to the modern day.

After an impressive ride through Vienna’s colourful history, we had a walk to the Burggarten where we had a small picnic lunch. After a quick game of football, we rounded off the day with a walk through the most famous shopping streets – Graben and Kärtner Straße.

What the Y8 students said:

“It was just a wonderful and exciting place to go!” Kevin.

“What I enjoyed most was the 5D cinema including an artificial tail that whipped the backs of our legs when there were rats, tilting chairs and an overall feeling of thrill and excitement,” Filip.

“I also enjoyed the other activities we did, such as eating in the park and taking a small tour through the Vienna shopping streets,“Greta.
