Art Exhibition

On Wednesday, 18th May, our Year 9 students were very proud to show off their work in a mini exhibition in our school dining room. Every student has created a piece of work to be donated to the Surgery wards at Ruzinov hospital.  The students raised the money for the frames by holding several bake sales.

Every student in Year 9 has created a piece of artwork to be donated to Ruzinov hospital in Bratislava.  This has become an annual project; one that started four years ago, coordinated by Mrs. Taranova, our teacher of Slovak.  She was approached by a local doctor from a Psychiatric hospital with the challenge of brightening up their department.  The students raised money themselves for the frames by holding several bake sales over many weeks.

This project became very important the following year when one of our teachers was diagnosed with cancer.  He specifically requested the Year 9 work to be donated to the Oncology ward at Kramare hospital, of which he was a patient.  Sadly, Mr. Nick Marriott died in December of 2013.  The hospital project is now named in his memory and a trophy is awarded at the end of the year in his honour.

Since then, our Year 9 students have donated work to the children’s ward in Kramare hospital and this year to the surgery ward at Ruzinov Hospital.

Dr. Meszarosová from the Surgery ward visited the exhibition and gave a short speech to our students.  She was extremely impressed with the quality of the work and the students talked to her about the inspiration behind their work.  It was a lovely afternoon.

The whole collection of pictures was delivered to the hospital on Friday 20th May and three of our students visited the wards to see their work displayed.  The event was filmed by TV Joj who interviewed the students, Dr. Mesarosová and some of the patients.
