IB Introduction Days

On June 13th and 14th our Year 11 students attended a series of IB- style lessons to give them a taste of the invigorating challenges they will encounter on the IB Diploma Program.

Following coffee, croissants and the official welcome from Mr Darwell, students spent the first part of the Monday session getting English, Slovak and Korean perspectives on what the study of Literature can involve at IB and university level, and this was followed by an introduction to the compulsory Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course and taster lessons in each of the students' option subjects.

In keeping with the ethos of the IB program and with the requirements of the TOK course, much emphasis over the two days was put on inquiry. Students were encouraged to ask lots of questions and attend some lessons in subjects outside their six chosen options, developing an awareness of different perspectives and approaches which academic researchers might have.

All students and staff involved put tremendous enthusiasm into the event, resulting in two very productive, stimulating days. Tellingly, the students reported that they already 'love IB' (I do quote) and are looking forward to starting the Diploma Program in September. If the hard work and positive energy they brought to this event is anything to go by then the future is very bright for IB study at BISB.
