Global Campus News

2017 Global Challenge and Global Event

Every year all Nord Anglia Education schools are invited to participate in a project that sees students across our family tackle a set challenge. This challenge is designed to support the development of key skills, and give our students extended learning opportunities to collaborate with students in their own school and around the world. In the past, challenges have focused on Art, Dance, Science and Global Citizenship.

This year the Challenge is bigger than ever. Nord Anglia Education are collaborating with UNICEF and challenging our students to come up with projects which will make a significant impact in our local community in relation to the UN Goals for Sustainable Development. In particular, we are focusing on Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) and Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Here at BISB we launched the Challenge, with both Secondary and Primary students, by organising assemblies and workshops to explain what the Sustainable Development Goals are and how the UN works.

We have now challenged our students in Years 10 and 12 to develop projects, which they can lead in school, involving students from all ages and stages of our community, which will make a significant local impact in moving forward Goals 2 or 3. Students who are interested in leading projects have already begun developing their ideas and presenting them to panels of staff. From these initial presentations, we will select a number of projects which will run over the term, before finally choosing one winning entry, which will represent our School in the overall Global Challenge competition to be judged by a panel of experts at the UN in May.

At the same time, in Secondary, we launched the linked-in Global Event, a leadership opportunity for students in Years 10 and 12. This is an amazing and unique opportunity for Nord Anglia students. As part of our partnership with UNICEF & the UN we will be sending 2 students from our School to New York in July to participate in a series of workshops which will culminate in our students presenting our Global Challenge projects to the United Nations High Level Political Forum. All costs, in New York, will be met by Nord Anglia Education. The selection process to the role of ‘Student Ambassador’ is designed to give our students multiple opportunities to demonstrate their leadership, resilience, flexibility and ability to work well under pressure. Firstly, they must be involved in the Global Challenge, developing and leading one of the projects which run in School. They will need to participate in a day-long event next month designed to enhance their public speaking skills. They will also need to complete an application form, attend an interview and take part in a public speaking competition. Through this process we believe that all students, whether they are successful in being selected to the role of Student Ambassador or not, will gain confidence and skills which will help them in the future.

Should you wish further information about the selection process for Student Ambassadors, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Conway on Lindsay.Conway@bisb.sk

Debating League

The Debate League is once again underway in both Primary and Secondary schools with teams competing in all 3 divisions of the competition. In past years, we have enjoyed great success in this competition, so please wish our teams well this year too!

Lego Challenge

The Lego Challenge has again proved popular with our young designers! Log onto the Global Campus with your child at home to find out more ways they can participate!

Global Campus Library

Secondary School students have been participating in the Global Campus Library since last term, enabling them to log onto the GC to participate in activities related to the books they are reading in their English lessons. We are delighted that we will soon also have our Primary School students taking part as we are currently waiting delivery of the Primary GC Library book order. Primary students will be able to earn a stamp in the GC Passport for taking part.

Reading Anthologies & Creative Writing Competition

Over 6,500 students from The Nord Anglia family have taken part in this year’s Creative Writing Competition. Over 200 students from BISB participated and selecting finalists from our entries was challenging. We are now waiting to hear how our stuents have done in the overall competition.

We have now received the printed Creative Writing Anthologies from last year. Students whose work was printed in the Anthology – alongside winning entries from the complementary Art competition, which illustrates the book – will be presented to students at a special event next month.
