Year 9 visit to ORF studios, Vienna

On Friday 12th May, Year 9 German students visited the ORF studios in Vienna. This is the main broadcasting organisation for Austria.

Students were treated to an expert tour of the building (in German) and were shown the techniques used in television. Greg had his face transferred to other people; Antoni, Richard, Kevin and Tom were taken for a ride on a magic carpet! The whole group was filmed singing and dancing to “Because I’m Happy”.

ORF’s most successful TV programme at the moment is Dancing Stars, which is the equivalent of Strictly Come Dancing in the UK. We were fortunate enough to take a look at the set ahead of that evening’s live performance, look at some of the costumes, visit the control room, and we even got to see a rehearsal taking place.

Ms Freeman was swept off her feet for a high lift by one of the professionals - Willi Gabelier - who was dancing with former alpine skier Nicole Hosp. Fortunately he didn’t hurt his back ahead of the evening performance!

It was a brilliant visit, very informative and interesting, and much appreciated by all. Thank you to Ms Sebova and Ms Slobodova for organising it.
