A Day in the Life

Students enrolled in the Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard | Strings Programme work closely with Juilliard artist faculty in unique and engaging educational experiences. Sessions take place throughout the day in large and small group settings as well as in private one-to-one sessions.

Course Descriptions

The program is designed to foster a deep understanding of one’s instrument as well as their role within a small group and larger orchestral community, culminating in memorable and life shaping experiences for every young musician.

Private Lessons_Details_shanghai
Private Lessons

Students will receive at least two private lessons in which to study their prepared repertoire with a Juilliard artist faculty member. These opportunities to have one-on-on sessions with world-class musicians will focus on raising each students’ instrumental, interpretive, and performance skills.  

Chamber Music_Details_Shanghai
Chamber Music

Students will be assigned to small groups (of mainly 3-5 players) with selected repertoire to be studied.  Each group will receive at least 4 coachings with Juilliard artist faculty as well as dedicated time for chamber music rehearsal.  Through working on the great chamber music repertoire, students will hone their collaborative and leadership skills by working and performing in small groups.

Sectionals

Led by Juilliard artist faculty, these sessions are dedicated to working more in depth on the orchestral repertoire, troubleshooting technical issues that may arise, in a focused and targeted environment.  Blending and ensemble skills will also be highlighted within each section of the orchestra in efforts to develop a cohesive ensemble sound.

Town Hall

Drawing on their vast array of professional experience and higher education, the esteemed Juilliard artist faculty will lead lectures and interactive seminars on subjects important to careers in music. They will cover a range of topics that provide invaluable insight into the professional world of music that are fundamental for young artists, such as:
