Making a difference to help achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals

In 2015 the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals to be achieved by 2030. Your child will join governments, the private sector, and citizens of the world in this ambitious project to make them a reality and transform our future.

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) cover global issues affecting everyone on the planet from ending hunger to promoting health and well-being. 193 nations have committed to doing their part in achieving these goals by 2030. If completed, this would mean an end to extreme poverty and climate change.

Your child can transform our future

To accomplish this ambitious task, Nord Anglia Education students have been challenged to take action as global citizens. This challenge offers the opportunity to not only use the World's Largest Lesson, but also to contribute to the content of the World's Largest Lesson. Each year, your child will work with students around the world to advance two SDGs as part of our Global Challenge. Students of all ages will work together around the world to raise awareness of the goals and to research, develop and implement sustainable solutions to these challenges. Your child will discover the power of their actions and learn how collaboration, communication and creativity can help to solve the world’s toughest problems.

Throughout the 2016/17 academic year, our students have focused on two goals:

  • Goal 2 - End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture
  • Goal 3 - Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Our students have developed innovative projects ranging from sustainable farming to raising money to fund urgent surgery for children.

Giving a voice to children worldwide

In 2017, over 90 students from Nord Anglia schools around the world will take a leading role in the global discussion around these important issues as they join senior representatives from UNICEF and the UN, President of the UN General Assembly, at the High-Level Political Forum in New York City. Our students will give a voice to children's views at a special side meeting co-chaired by the UN Ambassadors for Bulgaria, Malaysia and Argentina, UNICEF and Project Everyone. Students will share details of their work over the last nine months and the impact it has made on their communities. This is a unique opportunity for students to witness diplomacy first hand and hear from government representatives on how they are tackling the issues that face our planet.

Diplomacy in Action

While in New York, our students will also participate in Nord Anglia's first Global Model United Nations (MUN). Our students will each represent a country in one of three committees, to debate key global challenges. Students will research these issues and their representative country's position on them, before debating with their fellow committee members to reach a resolution. Participating in the MUN enables students to hone skills such as critical thinking, communication, public speaking and negotiation.
