Year 7 News

It has been great to kick off the new term with such a positive feeling of enthusiasm. As I visit classrooms and talk to our Year 7 students, it is clear that they are very happy to be back in school after an exciting holiday.

  • Year 7

On Tuesday we were treated to a performance from members of Juilliard, who introduced students to a number of new and intriguing instruments. It was hard not to be impressed with such talent and I hope that meeting such accomplished people will further encourage Year 7 to be as ambitious as possible.

I would just like to take this opportunity to let you know about events during form time this term. Of course, this is the time for students to be registered and important messages given however, at NAIS Pudong we feel that we should push learning at every opportunity so we have added a few extra activities for students to participate in during morning registration.

View from the classroom

With a new term comes lots of new and stimulating topics throughout school. Below is a summary of some that have been starting in the first weeks back:

Geography

Year 7 have just started work on Tectonic Hazards studying the work of Alfred Wegener as an example of how pioneering scientists sometimes have ideas ahead of their time. They have been completing role plays and storyboards to demonstrate their learning so far.

English

Students have been designing success criteria for excellent descriptive writing; this term's unit of study.

Design and Technology

In Design and Technology students have started their wood based Resistant Materials project of the year. This will involve the students learning to use varies equipment in the workshop to shape and finish wood in order to create their Noteholders.

French

We've just begun a new topic - 'la  maison' - where the students will study some tricky French grammar including prepositions and declension of articles, whilst learning to describe their local area. Miss Ford was recently very pleased with Fiona Yao who, as a complete beginner to French, is now developing a very nice accent and becoming more confident in speaking French.
