Dear Parents,

It has been a Science-tastic week at school with our Primary students participating in activities led by the National Space Academy the latter end of this week. On Thursday evening, many of our students and their parents attended a fascinating presentation led by Dr. Kierann Shah who talked about people who go to space and how, and what they do when they get there. Our students were clearly intrigued by the talk and were extremely excited to be invited to the stage to volunteer in a variety of experiments, which included; making a comet, showing how infra-red light works and safely sending a marshmallow astronaut into space! At the end of the presentation all students had an opportunity to speak to our visiting scientists and look much more closely at the equipment they had brought along with them, including a real-life pressure suit.

Today, our students in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 also had the opportunity to work with the National Space Academy and participate in a variety of investigations and experiments, including creating rockets on the school playground. They also investigated further aspects of Physics in fun ways, including the speed of reactions using glow-sticks! I know there will be a lot of children coming home today bursting to tell you about all the fun things they have done today.

Later today, we welcome home our Year 6 students from their Project Week and we look forward to finding out all about their adventures on their return. They will be treating us to a special assembly in a few weeks’ time where they will be sharing their experiences with us.

Don’t forget that we will be hosting a Phonics workshop for parents on Wednesday 9th November. This is aimed at parents who have children in Early Years and Infants, and will focus on how we teach Phonics in school, the types of activities we use and how you can help your child at home. It will start at 9am in the Hive – we hope you can join us.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Lisa Passante

Head of Primary
