English

Next week in English we will link it with our Topic work by thinking of an invention that the children think they cannot live without. They will research the invention, finding information about how it was made, who made it, when and where it was created. The children will be encouraged to think about what inspired the inventor to create it. They will then present all of their information in the form of a report, which will be on display in our museum.

In Guided Reading each group will be given a focused text to improve their reading and comprehension skills. The children will write the answers after reading to show if they understood what they read. You can continue this practice at home by asking your child questions when you have heard them read. They will also complete independent activities from their reading journal.

Maths

In Maths next week, we will be applying our understanding of multiplication and division strategies to real-life problem solving. The children will use the RUCSAC approach (Read, Understand, Choose, Solve, Answer, Check) to help them interpret and answer questions.

As the week progresses, the children will need to be able to apply different strategies to help them solve problems, as well as identify which operation to choose to solve different problems.

We will also begin collaborative problem solving work - encouraging the children to cooperate with each other and work in a team to solve a problem.

Our times tables work will continue to focus on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.

Topic

We will continue to be Scientists. We will look at different materials and sort them into different groups. We will create our own experiment to test the materials for the different properties. We will research inventors who made man-made materials.

In Computing we will be using a program called ‘Scratch’ to design and make our own characters.
