The IGCSE Drama students have been working hard to achieve outstanding results in their practical examinations and this term they hosted a Closed Performance Evening. This is when audience members are allowed to come and see a full rehearsal and comment about the quality of the show. Year 11 students have been writing and developing their own plays and, this year, all the plays focused on Absurdism. I am very pleased to see the amount of progress that they have made from the start of year and these performances, held in our Auditorium, were fantastic to sit and watch. Absurdism is a very difficult genre to write and act as there is always a hidden message or meaning to the short plays. Our pupils managed this so well in front of parents and other pupils, well done to all involved!
In Year 7, students are just finishing their physical theatre pieces and have created a range of interesting dance pieces all with different meanings and features. Year 8 have created a Naturalistic piece and have tried to become another person, whilst in Year 9 they have finished creating haunted experiences for people to feel. Some of these performances were very interactive and frightening!
The workmen have been in creating the larger bits of set needed for our show, Beauty and the Beast, and things are really taking shape well. With another full day ahead of us on Saturday, the pupils still keep up their energy and enthusiasm fantastically well. This weekend will see our first look at some of the costumes that we have had made. Tickets are now all sold out apart from the opening night, the Red Carpet event, but these few tickets that remain will be snapped up soon, so make sure you are not disappointed by buying your tickets from Main Reception soon.
