Letter from the Head of Secondary - 9th March 2016

Rain certainly didn’t dampen the high spirits on Tuesday evening as the red carpet was rolled out, and the guests arrived in style to the opening night of Beauty and the Beast. The cast rose to the occasion, earning a well-deserved standing ovation as the curtains closed at the end of the night and the characters disappeared. Last night saw a very different group of theatre goers, as many of our youngest students came to watch one of their favourite shows. This time, not only did the cast amaze me, but also the excellent behaviour of our youngest students who sat in awe throughout the whole performance even if it was well past their bedtime.

Of course these events couldn’t take place without the hard work, commitment and sheer passion from our Performing Arts team, a huge thank you to Mr. Bailey, Mr. Bradshaw and Mrs. Bailey for providing such a fantastic experience for cast, crew and community. We can’t wait until next year, and on that note if you are attending tonight or tomorrow, see if you can pick up on the clue as to what show takes place next year, all will be revealed in next week’s newsletter!

Without a doubt, the talent in the orchestra pit, on the stage and from the supporting crew, showed us that many of our students have a potential career in theatre, however being so multi-talented there are many careers and further education choices that our students have at their fingertips. As educators we have such a privileged position in playing a part in shaping the future paths of the young people in our care. Supporting us in opening up their eyes to the wealth of opportunity are our visiting businesses and Universities joining us today as part of our annual careers fair. This is an event not to be missed.

A reminder for all our budding scientists and space explorers of the future, we move from the stage to the skies next week as we welcome The UK National Space Academy. We do encourage you to attend our evening lecture ‘Space - So What?’ next Thursday evening at 6.30pm for what promises to be a very interesting lecture.
