Letter from the Head of Primary - 3rd March 2016

Last week I mentioned how Mr Scrymgeour and I had been going into Early Years and Primary Maths lessons to see what the students were learning. This week we have also started seeing our Primary Mandarin classes in action and we have been really impressed with the level of Mandarin that our students have acquired, with some of our students only having studied the language for six months. Having lived in China for almost ten years, I am always appalled at my own ability to learn Mandarin, so I have nothing but admiration for our students who can speak two, three and often four languages. We will continue to visit our Mandarin lessons over the next fortnight.

You will be aware that we have a busy end of term approaching, with our nightly performances of Beauty and the Beast next week, followed by Book Week and International Week in the last week of term. Parents are, of course, more than welcome to be as involved as they would like in our two special weeks, whether that involves coming in to read with our students during Book Week or sharing information about their home country during International Week. Please do get in touch with us if you would like to be involved in our upcoming events.

On a similar note, we have decided to have a book focus for our next coffee morning, which for this occasion will be open to parents across the whole school. Some of our parents have asked us about The Learning Centre, how it is used by students, when it is open as well as provided us with some suggestions on how we could develop it in the future. We, therefore, thought it would be fitting to have a coffee morning during Book Week where we could discuss how to get the most out of The Learning Centre. This will take place on Monday 14th March at 9:30am in the Hive.

Immediately prior to the coffee morning and workshop, from 9am we will have our special Book Week dress-up parade. We hope you are able to come along for a very colourful and interesting morning.
