English

In English, we will continue reading Roald Dahl’s autobiography – ‘Going Solo’. The children will then be considering how to write an autobiography. Initially, they will plan their autobiography on a timeline considering which events they remember the most and why. These might be linked to holidays, family, friends, school, moving etc. Then the children will plan in more detail by considering what information will go in each paragraph of their autobiography. When the children write at the end of the week, they will think about how to elaborate on their memories and make them engaging for the reader. We will also be showing the children how to use a range of sentence structures: complex, compound and simple.

Maths

This week in Maths we will be teaching different objectives in each set so we can focus on what our sets need.

Mr McGuigan’s set will reinforce their understanding of time by reading analogue and digital clocks followed up with solving word problems. We will then practise converting between different measures and conclude the week by measuring the perimeter of composite shapes accurately.

Mr Johnson and Ms Lawrence’s set, we will be linking their learning to the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. The children will be using their knowledge of measures to convert different amounts of currency using calculators or written methods for multiplication and division. The children will be introduced to algebra and will then solve simple equations by substituting in values.

In Ms. Preston’s set, we will be continuing our initial understanding of algebra. We will link our knowledge to sequences, and will begin to complete and create sequences using the nth term. We will explore ways to find a rule to fit a more complicated sequence, before continuing our work on collecting like terms and solving simple equations. We will also be investigating algebraic expressions that represent general mathematical rules.

Topic

Next week during Topic lessons, we will produce a holiday campaign for a holiday destination making it appeal to a specific market in mind. The campaign could include video adverts, posters, brochures and leaflets. There’s a variety of options to choose from but to add additional challenge, the target audiences will be over 50’s, families and over 60’s. The children will also create their own historical tour of locations within a desired area. Locations will include museums, monuments, buildings and so on.
