Letter from the Head of Primary - 16th June 2016

Firstly, whilst it technically took place last week, I must comment on the Year 3 Campout that occurred last Friday. I hope you have all had a chance to see Mrs Schopp’s write-up, but I too wanted to take the opportunity to say what a fantastic event it was. The Year 3 students, some of whom had not been away from their parents for a whole night before, were absolutely amazing and responded incredibly well to the prospect of sleeping beneath the stars with their friends. I can certainly say that from the teachers’ perspective, we had a thoroughly great evening too – albeit we were all a little surprised at how little sleep everyone else needed!

This week has of course been ‘Horrible Histories’ week, with our Junior students really coming together to perform a fantastic show. To think that it was only this week that all of the students finally came together is quite remarkable, but they have approached each rehearsal and performance with such a mature and positive attitude; I have been really proud of their achievements. This evening will be the final performance of ‘Horrible Histories’ and I hope all the Junior parents who are coming along to see it really enjoy the show. I would like to thank all the class teachers who have been working closely with their students whilst still delivering the regular curriculum and a special thank you to Mr Bailey, Mr Bradshaw and Mr Trayte for their artistic talents and supporting us in bringing the show to life.

Next week, all of our returning students to NAIS Pudong will have a Moving Up Morning, where they will get a chance to meet their new class teacher. Of course, we will have some new staff joining us and so the students in those classes will be shown a presentation that their new teacher has put together especially for them. In a previous newsletter, Mrs Wallace introduced Mr Andrew Lowery and Ms Lucy Marshall who will be joining us as Upper Junior Leader and Lower Junior Leader respectively, as well as Mrs Penny Mulholland who will join us as Head of Learning Support.

Joining our Early Years team we will be welcoming Ms Melanie Rushton, Mrs Kelly-Ann Downs and Miss Kirstie Chilvers, all of whom are experienced Early Years practitioners and who between them have almost 30 years of teaching experience. Miss Chilvers and Ms Rushton will be joining us directly from the UK, with Mrs Downs joining us from our sister school BISAD.

Also joining the Primary school will be Mr Chris Lowe and Miss Rachel Morris, who have over 14 years teaching experience between them both in the UK and in the Middle East.

I am in regular contact with all of our new teaching staff and can confidently say that they are all very eager to join us here at NAIS Pudong in August.

With just one week to go, we are all busily preparing for the end-of-year assembly and our class parties as well as finishing off those all-important last pieces of work. We hope you are able to join us next Wednesday for our Year-in-Review Assembly so that you can share and reflect on the busy year we have had.
