Year 11 Celebration Dinner

After a very long and challenging IGCSE examination period, the Year 11 Celebration Dinner on Friday 17th June gave both students and their parents an opportunity to celebrate all of the hard work they have put into their studies this year. The buffet dinner was held on the terrace of Kathleen’s Waitan, with last week’s patchy weather clearing to reveal the breathtaking view of the Pudong skyline and even a perfect moon and stars.

The Year 11 “Prom” is the first formal evening event for our students, and they certainly looked the part, dressed in beautiful gowns and suits, taking photos with their very proud parents. One hundred and fifty guests enjoyed the event which was expertly organised by parents Jules Murphy, Kim Duker and Linda Gill.

While the occasion was meant to be quite informal, there were a few formalities. Firstly, Principal Mrs Lesley-Ann Wallace welcomed students and parents and congratulated them on completing the IGCSEs. For some students who had their final examination that afternoon, the message was especially sweet. Mrs Wallace also wished a fond farewell to the Year 11 students who are moving on or repatriating over the summer and encouraged those who would be forming the NAIS Pudong Year 12 cohort next year to enjoy their well-earned summer break.

There was a student-led awards presentation which had the students clapping and cheering at the very tongue-in-cheek award categories. Finally, Year 11 Leader, Ms Anna Jeffery, gave a very heartfelt speech in which she praised the students for being a cohesive and welcoming group, always supporting each other and striving to make a positive difference at school and beyond.

The final week of the school year sees Year 11 students spend three days participating in the IB Induction, before they return in August to commence the IB Diploma Programme.
