Information and Reminders

  • Homework has gone out this week, it needs to be returned by a Monday
  • Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. We have sent activities home with the children for you to try with them and their reading books.
  • The weather is very hot at the moment so please ensure that your child is bringing both a water bottle and hat in everyday
  • We would really appreciate parents’ support in helping their child make healthy choices when choosing a snack to eat at breaktime. Please remember that children should not be sharing snacks as we have a number of children with food allergies. Thank you for your help with this.

English

In English next week we will be continuing to look at a non-fiction text based on the human body. Moving on from the children being able to identify the features of a text, summarise information and find key technical vocabulary, we will be beginning to write our own non-fiction texts. We will link our topic knowledge to our writing and be focusing on writing texts about the eye. At the start of the week we will draft out our own versions, before editing them and finally producing a class information book regarding eyes.

Maths

During our maths sessions this upcoming week we will be continuing to consolidate our learning around place value. We will be moving onto being able to manipulate numbers beyond 1000. We will be finding 1000 more and less than any given number, finding multiples of 1000 and rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. Towards the end of the week we will take all of this knowledge and apply our skills to answering word problems. We will think critically and solve problems based on our understanding of place value of numbers beyond 1000.

Topic

As scientists we will continue to explore the eye and how it works. We will be looking at why it is important to undertake fair testing and look at a range of excellent examples of scientific investigations. From here we will be turning our classrooms into opticians. We will be developing our own eye testing systems, conducting eye tests and writing up reports on the eyesight of our peers. At the end of the week we will look back at our testing and evaluate its effectiveness and see if we would make any changes next time.
