Pudong Tigers Sports - 23rd September – 30th September 2016

School Team Match Reports

Wednesday 21st September - Volleyball teams travelled to Concordia International School

The D1 Boys performed exceptionally well and narrowly lost the first set 25 to 23 points. In the second set, the team lost some momentum and found it difficult to find their rhythm and made a few crucial errors during the game. Concordia won the set 25 to 12points. This did not dampen the team’s spirit and they continued to fight like tigers. Yoav Shimoni set superbly and commanded the team like a true captain motivating and encouraging each player through every point.  The third set was extremely tight and Concordia managed to win by 15 to 12 points. The team can take many positives from this defeat and get ready for their next home game on Friday against SCIS. The man of the match was Jesus Arias; he was the team Libero and demonstrated a defensive masterclass on occasions. The team consisted of  Joseph Chong, 11A, Jesus Arias, 13C,  Joaquin Rios Saldarriaga, 12A, Oleg Grunda, 13 A, Yoav Shimoni, 13A, Giorgio Wu, 13C and Jack Bailey 13C.

The D1 Girls despite performed well were simply outplayed by a well drilled Concordia team, who have not lost a game all season. Despite losing the game 3 set to nil, the team showed their spirit and continued to fight like tigers. The next two games will determine the success of the team’s season. If they win both games they will reach the cup competition

Lapses in concentration affected the overall performance of the D2 Boys.  The first set ended 25 to 12 points to Concordia. The second set saw a fightback with the Tigers deserving more from their performance, losing 25 to 16 points. In the third and final set, the fightback continued with the boys narrowly losing 15 to 12 points. The team know they can play better and have two games left to play and win if they are to reach the cup competition.

Joanne Parish

The D2 Girls played a strong side, losing the three sets: 25 to 11 points, 25 to 14 points and 15 to 7 points. Despite playing well, elementary mistakes resulted in their losing confidence. The team has one game left to show their true skill. If they win this vital game they will reach the cup competition.
