English

We will continue our grammar focus on how sentences are constructed. You could talk to your child at home about what a clause, phrase, subject, object or verb is, and try out some sentences using these correctly. After the holidays, we will be collecting information about and writing non-chronological reports on different animals and species. We will be embedding relative clauses into our work to provide more detail, and will also be fine tuning our summarising skills in order to take notes effectively.

Maths

Next week in Mathematics, we will be begin exploring a two-week project on Number and the Number System, where we will be finding out about number types and number properties. This will involve work on factors, multiples, squares, primes and cubes.  We will be finding out what these are, carrying out investigations linked to number, and sorting numbers according to their features and properties. Some Times Table revision over the National Week may help your child in accessing their learning. You could also use the following websites to further develop and extend the learning that has taken place this term:

Topic

After the holidays, we will continue to classify living things within The Five Kingdoms, by finding out a bit more about micro-organisms and bacteria. We will be exploring the role of micro-organisms through an in depth study of how composting works. You could try composting leftover food at home and researching the different stages of the process. We will also begin the design and implementation of our exciting technology project!
