Message from the Principal - 13th January 2017

  • welcome back

We certainly didn’t waste any time getting the second term off to a great start. First off, I would like to wish a very warm welcome to our new families that joined us this week! Whilst for many families relocating from warmer climates such as Dubai, South America and Australia, the temperature outside may have been chilly, the atmosphere inside was warm and welcoming as our new starters met with members of the community group to find out more about life in Shanghai. Our community group plays a very active part in driving and leading events in our school.  They ensure that we have plenty of opportunities to come together and make new friends and connect with parents of children of all ages. Having spent Tuesday morning with them planning a range of activities, any help would be warmly received. If you feel like you could lend a hand to support in anyway please drop them a line - communitygroup@naispudong.com .

January brings Year 11 and Year 13 students carrying out their mock exams over the next few weeks. With this in mind, we would like to congratulate Aidan Wong, Year 13 graduate from last year. Aidan decided he would take the opportunity in November to re-sit a number of his IB exams. This was very impressive considering Aidan had already achieved an outstanding IB score of 41 points which places him in the top 5% of students worldwide. Being such an academically ambitious student, Aidan believed he was capable of achieving more. He challenged himself to excel further and his hard work was rewarded with a total point score of 44 out of a possible 45. This makes him our highest achieving IB student and amongst an elite 1% of students worldwide who achieved this standard. Congratulations to Aidan as he embarks on his impending medical studies!

We also strive to encourage socially ambitious students here at Nord Anglia, our very own I-Zac Lee and Sammi Huang certainly uphold these values. Sammi and I- Zac- have been inspiring students to question the real values of internationalism and global citizenship. The pair has been conducting research in form of a worldwide survey with students of all 43 schools in our Nord Anglia family. To find out more you can click here and here.

Finally our swimmers will be aiming for personal triumph this weekend as they travel to Nanjing for an invitational swim meet. We wish the Tiger Sharks every success in the pool!

So the year is certainly off to an exciting start, with trips to Tanzania, Iceland, visiting authors, Juilliard dance specialists and our Chinese New Year celebrations to look forward to... it’s sure to be a busy few weeks.
