Overview of Learning

After the Chinese New Year holiday we will be blasting off to space and reaching for the stars during our new topic ‘Blast Off!’ This topic will definitely engage the children as they explore and learn about rockets, space, planets, stars and aliens. We begin the new topic with the well-loved story ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. The children will have the opportunity to listen to the story, use props and mini me characters to familiarise themselves with the characters and key parts of the story, sequence the story using picture cards and orally retell the story using actions. We will be revisiting shape, using them to make space pictures and rockets. The children will learn the mathematical language to name and describe the properties of 2D shapes.
