English

In English next week we will continue to read ‘Pig-Heart Boy’ by Malorie Blackman. We have just discovered that Cameron has the chance to have a transplant using the heart of a pig. What will this entail? Will he go ahead? What could be the possible repercussions? As we find out what choice Cameron makes, we will discuss the pros and cons of going ahead with the transplant, as well as the ethical issues that this could raise. The students will prepare and plan a debate on these.

Spelling: Converting nouns and adjectives to verbs using the suffixes –ate, -ise and –ify

Maths

In maths we are going to develop our skills in estimating, measuring and drawing angles.  By the end of the week we will want the children to be confident using a protractor to both measure and draw angles. We will also want the children to have a understanding of the terms acute, obtuse and reflex when talking about angles. This will mean they have all the necessary skills to investigating angles in more depth during the following weeks.

Topic

In topic next week, the children will be looking at the functions of the bones in the human body and we can keep muscles and bones healthy. We will be exploring the functions of the heart and how it operates. Towards the end of the week, we will turn our attention to the lungs; looking at the function of the lungs and carrying out scientific investigations.
