Message from Primary - 14th April

Dear Parents,

It may have been a bit grey and wet at the beginning of the week, but it definitely feels like the summer term has now arrived and we have enjoyed blue skies and sunny days for most of this week. The warm weather always seems to put a spring in everyone’s step and this is most certainly true of our students and teachers on their return to school this week. The short break has recharged everyone’s batteries and we are looking forward to the next ten weeks and the many events and activities that the Early Years and Primary students will be participating in.

This term we have a number of class assemblies to look forward to and yesterday Mr Lowe and 2B got us off to a great start with their assembly on their recent topic People of the Past. A particular highlight was a silent movie they had made in the style of Charlie Chaplin – this had everyone giggling! We also awarded our first Stars of the Week to those students who had clearly come back to school, aiming to do their very best.

Earlier in the week, I tasked our Year 1 students with an investigation into some strange happenings that had occurred on our school field. The brave Year 1 students ventured out, armed with protective helmets, high visibility jackets, goggles and magnifying glasses to decode a secret message that had been left by visiting aliens. The students then wrote a recount of what they had experienced during their unusual morning.

Whilst our Year 1 children have been investigating alien visits, our Nursery children have begun exploring ‘Under the Sea’ as their new topic; and on Thursday came to school dressed as a whole host of wonderful sea creatures. There were mermaids and lobsters, and Mrs Rao turned into a jellyfish for the day! The children were very excited about their special day and everything they will be learning as part of their new topic.

You can see photos of all our wonderful events from this week on our Facebook page, so please make sure you take a look!

Next week, of course, we have our final Academic Review Evenings of the year. These are a great opportunity to speak with your child’s class teachers about the progress they have made to date and what they will be focusing on in the weeks to come. The appointment booking system will close on Tuesday 18th April at 10am, so there is still time to book your appointments. We also have a variety of Parent Workshops taking place this term, so please look out for these.

I look forward to seeing many of you next week.

Best wishes,

Lisa Passante

Head of Primary
