Year 4 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 4

  • Year 4 enjoying PE in the sunshine

Information and Reminders

  • Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. We have sent activities home with the children for you to try with them and their reading books. We are wanting Year 4 children to read at home at least 3 times a week. If you read with your child at home please mark inside their learning journals for their class teachers to see.
  • Homework is sent on Wednesdays and must be returned on Mondays to be marked. Please make sure you encourage your child to complete it on their own and inform us if they found the activity challenging so we can further support them in school. They can sign up for homework club on Thursdays and Fridays which is first come, first served.
  • Don’t forget to check Class Dojo to see how many House Points your child has been collecting and to see posts of what is happening in your child’s class.
  • As the weather is warmer we are now wearing summer uniform in the primary school. Please visit the school website or check in your child’s Learning Journal for the appropriate clothing, which can be purchased at our uniform shop.
  • Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school.
  • There is still time to make an appointment for next week’s Academic Review Evenings. If you have any problems with the online booking system, please contact your child’s class teacher.

English:

During our English lessons next week we will be continuing to look at Roald Dahl’s Revolting Recipes. Throughout the week we will exploring the use of the non-narrative styles of writing including the use of both headings and subheadings. Alongside this we will be building up our vocabulary so that our writing is rich and varied. Towards the end of the week we will be taking Roald Dahl’s’ humorous style and mimicking this to create interest and humour in writing to create our own revolting recipes. All throughout term three we are going to be developing our skills of maintaining a joined up and legible handwriting style and the use of a dictionary to check our own work.

Guided Reading:  In our guided reading sessions next week we will be beginning to explore identifying and discussing themes and conventions in a wide range of writing.

Spelling:  In  our spelling lessons next week we will be exploring the rules of spelling a wide range of prefixes including ‘un-’, ‘dis-’, ‘in-’,‘re-’, ‘sub-’, ‘inter-’, ‘super-’, ‘anti-’ and  ‘auto-’.

Maths

Next week in maths we will be spending the week recapping both multiplication and division. We will begin the week by practising and consolidating our skills and knowledge on using the formal written method for both operations. From here we will look at how to solve missing number problems using both operations and look at the relationship between multiplication and division and the use of the inverse to check our answers are correct. At the end of the week we will take all of this understanding and apply it to problem solving questions.

Topic

During topic next week we will begin by being scientists. We will explore the environments required in order for plants to grow from seeds. We will also investigate how water travels through a plant. From here we will move onto becoming technologists. We will begin to design our own bread. We will undertake a range of strategies to ensure that we have created the best design in order to prepare for making our bread. Alongside this we will be writing our recipes for making our bread.
