An overview of the week ahead in Year 6

  • Year 6 on the campaign trail

Information and Reminders

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, WE HAVE POSTPONED OUR SUMMER FUN DAY TO SATURDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER.

Well done to all students upon finishing their SATs! We’re so proud of the Year 6s for their efforts in the examinations. The test papers were demanding but fair, and we are confident that the students were well-prepared to show the best of their ability. The results will be sent to you during the holidays, once the thresholds have been released by the Department for Education.

Dress rehearsals for the KS2 production ‘Porridge’ will take place on Monday and Tuesday, before our first performance on Wednesday. Please be reminded to inform us of your intention to attend, so we can plan the seating. Link for online seat reservation: www.jotform.com/71568466996478/

All parents are also invited to attend the Year 6 elections, which will occur on the morning of Tuesday 20th. Students will be campaigning to be chosen as ‘Leaders of the World’ in our final project of Primary School. We look forward to seeing you there.

6B – Conlan Morton – for his enthusiasm and positive attitude to learning throughout the year

6C – Anish Trehan – for perseverance in his role in ‘Porridge’

English

In English, we will continue to study the George Orwell classic ‘Animal Farm’, which is an excellent companion to our new Topic unit about governments and rulers. Students will analyse the decay of the revolution as the pigs’ policies grip the Farm.

Maths

In mathematics, we will work in groups to investigate mathematical problems. With the SATs over, we will take time to enjoy the curiosity and beauty of mathematics even more than before! We will build towards a joint Y5/Y6 Maths Olympics. Details will be confirmed shortly.

Topic

We will continue our final Topic ‘Champions for Change’, which is based upon governments and leadership. Students will continue to develop their own political parties and campaign for votes in the upcoming election. They will canvass opinion of the electorate, to find which views and topics will be most popular.
