After training to become a Secondary English teacher, Andrew spent four years teaching at an inner city school in Nottingham, UK. He then moved to become a Year 6 class teacher in Ipoh, Malaysia. He enjoyed it so much that he stayed for five years, subsequently becoming an Assistant Head Teacher.
He enjoys working with all ages of children in a variety of subjects and loves the cultural understanding which is possible in a diverse international school. Creating fascination, motivation and enthusiasm in a group of students is what attracted him to the profession, and it continues to be the best part of the job. His proudest achievements include organising the annual Literacy and Numeracy Weeks, and working with a dedicated and caring group of staff.
In his spare time, Andrew enjoys keeping fit by playing 5-a-side football; he looks forward to playing with a new team in Shanghai. His other sporting interests include jogging, golf and squash. He is an avid traveller, having visited nine of the eleven countries in Southeast Asia, equipped with his camera and Kindle. He looks forward to exploring Shanghai, East Asia and beyond in the next few years.
