Head of Mathematics and Pastoral Care
After twelve very successful years working in an outstanding school in London as a Head of Mathematics and Assistant Head Teacher, Clem was looking for a new challenge. Friends told his about a really great school in Shanghai where they were working, saying it had a philosophy of working at the cutting edge of education, high standards, fantastic, ambitious students and a collaborative working environment; they also said it was situated in a great community for families. Five months later, Clem was working at NAIS Pudong, and has never looked back. Five years later, he still enjoys the challenge.
Clem has always been passionate about mathematics. He believes it is a subject that opens intellectual doors as well as one at which everyone can be successful and enjoy. He always strives to ensure that this passion is communicated to the students he teaches and that, by learning mathematics in a fun and interesting way, they will be inspired to explore the subject with enthusiasm.
Clem has been very fortunate while working at NAIS Pudong that his family has expanded to include two beautiful daughters who both love attending the school in Early Years. I has a fulfilling career that he enjoys and which enables him to indulge his passion for teaching mathematics. Clem has many interests; he enjoys reading about science, history, politics, art and films and has a keen interest in sport. He regularly plays tennis and cycles, and is grateful to colleagues who have inspired him to become the Hong Kong Masters II 110kg bench press champion and acquire a taste for baroque music.
