After the tragic death of George Floyd on May 25 2020 and the sustained focus on the issues of systemic racism and racial inequality, we have taken the time to reflect on how we promote equality and fight discrimination wherever it may occur in our organisation.
The role we play as educators shapes the attitudes and behaviour of future generations all over the world. We must ensure that our students are educated in a way that accurately reflects the world in which they live and instils the importance of equality. We must help our colleagues to recognise and break any patterns of unconscious bias.
We will talk openly with our Nord Anglia community to listen, learn and take action to promote equality and a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination. Without difficult and often uncomfortable conversations, we cannot make the progress needed in society.
Sustained action is what matters most. As a first step, we are creating a global equality programme, to explore every aspect of our education and what we stand for as an organisation. This will identify the most important actions to take and how we will achieve these goals together.
