St Andrews International School Bangkok named International School of the Year 2020
21 January 2020
At last night’s prestigious International School Awards in London, two awards were received by Nord Anglia Schools. St Andrews International School Bangkok (St Andrews) won the top accolade of the night as International School of the Year 2020. This was a result of its standout contribution to the Best Environmental Initiative category alongside its recognised excellence as an international school. British International School Abu Dhabi (BISAD) won Best Community Initiative.
St Andrews received the headline International School of the Year 2020 for its exceptionally powerful environmental initiative - ‘Eco Beasts’ – designed to achieve collective and sustainable change. Students create and deliver action plans to address a variety of environmental challenges. The ‘Eco Beasts’ initiative has seen success from the outset, and the school now employs two environmental sustainability coordinators who have supported the growth of the ‘Eco Beasts’ initiative to involve the wider community. ‘Eco Beasts’ is now present in 17 local schools and 14 local sustainability organisations.
Speaking on the school’s outstanding success, Principal of St Andrews, Paul Schofield, has said: “I am delighted that the hard work and dedication of everyone at the school has been recognised. Being named as International School of the Year is a huge achievement and testament to our school community. We take huge pride in encouraging all our students to be global citizens and empower them to make meaningful change.” BISAD was recognised as the standout community initiative for its collaboration between students and Abu Dhabi University to redesign a local superblock with sustainable and community benefits. Commended for its contribution to the local area and going above and beyond what the school is already doing in its role as an exemplary international school, the Best Community Initiative award recognises how Nord Anglia students are working together to make a sustainable difference.
Principal of BISAD, Patrick Horne, said: “We are incredibly proud to have the work of our admirable students recognised. The award is globally respected which is a fantastic accolade but more so, it celebrates the hard work of our students who are truly committed to making a difference in the community.”
ISC Research hosts the annual event to recognise outstanding initiatives in English-medium international schools around the world. This year there were over 250 eligible nominations for the awards from international schools across 40 different countries. The winners were chosen by an independent judging panel of 11 highly experienced international educators. CEO of ISC Research, Leigh Webb, said: “There are some quite exceptional international schools implementing truly outstanding initiatives. ISC Research is very proud to host the International School Awards which help to recognise and raise awareness of some of these very best initiatives. All initiatives have to demonstrate to judges evidence of strategies that enable the initiative to be shared with other schools. Many congratulations to St Andrews International School Bangkok for its superb success this year and also to the British International School Abu Dhabi for an excellent initiative.”
Being named as International School of the Year is a huge achievement and testament to our school community.
