An Update from our Principal - Cambridge Offers!

An Update from our Principal - Cambridge Offers!

Dear Parents

I am writing to you having just been watching our U19 Basketball teams open the ACAMIS Gold division Basketball Championships which our school is hosting. We have six schools competing and it is a great pleasure to welcome them to our school. We see sport as a very important component of a well-rounded and broad and balanced education. Sport offers a unique opportunity to enjoy the thrill of competition, to test our skills, stamina and talent against others whilst making new friendships through shared endeavour. We hope all the students from all the schools enjoy their time with us and we wish the very best of luck to all of the teams.

Our older students have been sitting their mock examinations over the past couple of weeks and will soon be getting the outcomes of their hard work. Both teachers and students will be using this assessment information to guide their studies and revision over the coming months in preparation for the public examinations taking place at the end of April through to June. I note Mr. Khan’s comments in his email update concerning full attendance and would support this fully. It is important that our students have full attendance to make the most of the exam preparation and revision opportunities.

On a similar theme, we are approaching I/GCSE and IBoptions selection evenings.

  • This affects our Year Nine students who will be selecting their subjects for I/GCSE and our Year Eleven students selecting their options for IB Diploma (IBDP) studies in Years Twelve and Thirteen.
  • Further to the IB information evening in December, an IB option evening will be held on 7th February.
  • I/GCSE option evening will be coming up soon on 27th February so do look out for it.
  • If any family are unsure about the process or need further support in making their choices please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. J Upsall (IBDP) or Mr Khan (I/GCSE).

Of great importance are where our oldest students go after completing their secondary education. We are right in the middle of the offer and acceptance process to universities around the world. However some students have already received offers and the information we are receiving is very heartening. Two BSB students have received offers from Cambridge University which is a huge achievement by anybody’s standards, well done to them! Data from these early returns is most promising with virtually every student receiving an offer from a Top 100 university and a third of these being from universities in the Top 10 in the world. This is some achievement. As more data becomes available I will keep you posted as to the progress, and of course the school will be publishing offers and destinations when all are complete.

I look forward to seeing you in and around school over the coming weeks

Best regards

Mr. Richard Thornhill
