IGCSE (age 14 to 16)

The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is an English language curriculum preparing students for the International Baccalaureate, as well as A Level and BTEC Level 3 exams.

As a highly-regarded and academically rigorous two-year programme, IGCSE provides students with a recognised qualification for university admissions and, at the same time, the very best foundation for the IB Diploma Programme.

secondary group
The IGCSE curriculum is recognised by academic institutions and employers worldwide and is considered one of the best international qualifications to prepare students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

IGCSE will be offered in a range of subjects. External assessments for students at La Côte International School will be conducted by the following two examination boards, both of which are highly-regarded and internationally recognised:

  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), part of the University of Cambridge, a well-established provider of international qualifications, working with 10,000 schools in over 160 countries worldwide.
  • Edexcel, the UK’s largest examination body, established over 150 years ago as part of the University of London.

Depending on the exam board, IGCSEs are graded as follows:

  • Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) are reported on an A*–G grading scale, where A* represents the highest mark and G the lowest. This grading scale is understood and accepted by universities and employers around the world.
  • Edexcel: 9-1 grading scale, where 9 represents the highest mark and 1 the lowest. The 9–1 grading scale provides more differentiation across the scale, with the introduction of the new grade 9, designed to recognise the very highest performing students.
