On 19th & 20th March, 18 students from the British School of Beijing (BSB) Shunyi took part in the World Scholar's Cup - Beijing Round 2016 hosted at Keystone Academy.
Saturday 19th March was spent taking part in team debates against other schools, completing a collaborative writing task and doing a challenge. Our students were extremely successful, all groups coming home with at least 2 debate wins out of a total of 3.
On Sunday morning, they took part in the scholar’s bowl and in the afternoon they watched a debate showcase made up of the best debaters from Saturday. Jeremy Cao from Year 9 was chosen out of 250 other scholars’ to be in the debate and Jenny Hwang was chosen to be on the judging panel. Jeremy had to debate on the affirmative team the motion: “That Beijing is becoming more perfect”, arguing a very strong case on how Beijing’s environment is improving. The debate ended with an affirmative team win!
The afternoon continued with the Talent show, which saw many scholars showing off their talents. From BSB, Lachlan Niven from Year 9 played an acoustic version of a song by Metallica on his guitar.
The weekend then ended with the Closing Ceremony during which all our 18 scholars were awarded with medals, the most being won by Jeremy Cao who brought back 14 medals and a trophy, this was a new BSB record! (Jeremy’s trophy was for being 5th place overall in the debating competition).
Well done to all our students who took part in the World Scholar's Cup Beijing Round – they did BSB proud!
