The British School of Beijing (BSB) Shunyi was pleased to host the “Beijing International Schools’ Spring University Fair” on 19th March, 2019, one of the largest in Beijing. Hundreds of students and parents walked through the front doors of BSB Shunyi and into the gym to meet the 95 university admissions representatives who assembled to help inform the BSB Shunyi and larger Beijing community about their many future possibilities.
Universities from every region of the world were sharing information about their institutions. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University was one of the universities representing Asia. Europe was represented by University College Utrecht. There were many universities from the USA, Marist College being one of them. My alma mater, McMaster University was here as one of the Canadian contingent. King's College London was one of the many schools that joined the fair from the UK. Even two universities made their way from Australia. Admissions representatives spoke of general aspects for international students and in great detail too as some students were asking about specific programs. There were smiling faces on both sides of the tables as students asked thoughtful questions about universities they may apply to or have applied to. Many important connections were made between our students and university representatives.
Six of our esteemed university representatives took time away from speaking to guests in the gym, to hold seminar sessions. Ashley Swengler from Muhlenberg College gave a talk on College Interviews: helpful tips, what universities look for. Ms. Swengler was very pleased at how well her presentation was received. She mentioned that she enjoyed speaking to some of the attendants after her presentation about some specific questions they had.
Numerous university representatives spoke very highly of the quality of questions that BSB students asked them. They also spoke positively about the fair: the organization, the facilities and the break-out sessions.
We would also like to thank our BSB Student Ambassadors (Anna Sophie, Janick Bohm, George Bourne, Zilin Cao, Luca Coban, Illiana Hins, Pei-Jung Hsieh, Julia Kobiolka, YeaRim Lee, Chen Ji Qi, Zanda Stapelberg, Xiu Yen Su, Konnor Wallis and Nilufar Zeynali) who had volunteered to chaperone, assist and guide visitors on the day.
All in all, it was a very successful afternoon and evening that was very well attended and very well received by all people involved.
It is worth noting that this is not the end of University representatives visiting BSB, we have a programme on offer that ensures that there are regular presentations from University representatives on an ongoing basis, throughout the year.
