Our German Primary Programme offers the opportunity for our German-speaking primary school students in 1. Klasse to 4. Klasse to study core subjects in German, following the German Curriculum, while integrating into the English Curriculum with non-core subjects and a variety of whole school activities.
Core subjects in the German Primary Programme are taught in German according to the Thuringia Curriculum and the Kernlehrplan der Region 20/21 for grade 1 - 4. The Thuringia Curriculum is the curriculum used by all German schools in the Northern hemisphere. The core subjects, German, Maths, Topic (Humanities and Science), Art and PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) are taught in German. Typical German text books such as Das Sprachbuch and Mein Mathebuch support the lessons.
If you value your child's bilingual education, our bilingual German Year 1 is an excellent option. At BSB, our children of 5 years old who are native German speakers have the opportunity to join our German Year 1. ‘German’ and ‘Math’ are taught by our native German teachers in the German language. Other subjects, such as Topic (Geography and History), Physical Education, Music and Expressive Arts and Design are taught in English by our native English teachers within their international classroom. All lessons are based on the Thuringian curriculum of Grade 1 and the current English National Curriculum for Year 1.
All of our German Primary teachers are qualified and certified teachers with a degree certificate to match German standards. Each classroom has the additional support of a Teaching Assistant.
Music and Physical Education are taught in English as part of the English National Curriculum. Students also attend the weekly assemblies, participate in school productions and go on field trips - all conducted in English. English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is offered and Chinese lessons are optional.
Integration of the programme into the whole primary school is very important which is why classrooms are mixed throughout the primary school corridors and students use all the same facilities as well as have lunch time and break times together.
Our German primary students also benefit from the school’s pastoral care, school counselling and Special Educational Needs programme. They can also choose from a variety of both German and English After School Activities.
Our German Primary Programme is fully supported by the German Embassy and the major German companies Volkswagen/Audi, BMW, Daimler and Siemens. We also closely cooperate with the German Embassy School Beijing.
We welcome you to visit our school to see how the German Primary Programme works within our school.
