I am thrilled to join BSB, Shunyi in August 2017 to take up the post of Assistant Head and IB Coordinator.
I am originally from a beautiful seaside village in Ireland and moved to England as a teenager. In 2002 I graduated from The University of Sheffield with a BA (HONS) in French and Hispanic Studies. Following the completion of my PGCE, again at The University of Sheffield, I remained in the city to begin my teaching career.
In 2007 my husband Nikki and I moved to Dubai to teach at an inclusive British international school. When we joined, the school was about to put the previous two years of planning into practice and not only introduce the IB Diploma Programme but also be one of only eight pilot schools in the world to trial the IB Career-related Certificate, as it was then called. In my ten years at the school the IB cohort has grown from 20 to 150 students. For five years I was an IB Form Tutor before taking up the position of Assistant Head of IB. In 2014 I was promoted to the position of Deputy IB Coordinator. I employ a student-centred approach, ensuring that every student and their needs are looked after on an individual basis.
In my ten years of teaching the IB in Dubai I have had the opportunity to teach three Group 2 subjects, namely French, Spanish and now English ab initio as well as Approaches to Learning on the IBCP course.
One of the many benefits of having a young family in Dubai is that you are never far from a swimming pool. During the cooler months I enjoy playing football with my sons and getting out and about for walks and bike rides.
My husband Nikki, our two young children and I are very excited about our new family adventure.
