Brilliant Brownies

10 March 2016

This term, the BISB Brownie pack have been working towards their ‘Disability Awareness’ badge.  They have had to think carefully about the difficulties other people may experience.  We have learnt the alphabet in British Sign Language and have used this to communicate messages to each other.

We have thought about the implications for wheel chair users and the modifications our school would have to go through to become wheelchair friendly, and we have thought about the difficulties of not being able to see – we have had to develop our taste buds to identify different foods, our ears to identify different sounds, and our sense of smell to discover what products were.   We also had lots of fun developing our verbal instructions so that we could safely guide a blind folded person to the park and onto the equipment.  It has been wonderful to see our Brownies be thoughtful and empathetic towards the needs of others, whilst working together and having fun.

Brownies is a club for girls aged 7 – 10 year olds.  It runs every Wednesday from 3.00 – 4.00pm.  We do some arts and crafts, singing, cooking, and service projects.  If you would like any more details please contact ‘Snowy Owl’ or ‘Brown Owl’
