Last week children from Reception A and B were learning about Arctic habitat during their Forest school sessions.

They learnt that the Arctic is a region located in the northernmost part of the Earth. They identified which animals are land animals, which are sea animals and which spend their time on both land and in the sea.

The animals and the Eskimo people who live there are specially adapted to live in this unique region of the world and the food, which they eat, is rich in protein mostly from marine mammals.

The Reception children used their creative skills to make 'houses' for Artic animals and igloos for Eskimo people, using sugar cubes! Finally they used their physical skills as they were challenged to move in the same way as the arctic animals they had been learning about.

Since the children are still talking about Santa and his reindeer, they were fascinated to learn that the North Pole is also in the Arctic!
