    Justine Young

After completing my degree in English Studies at the University of Strathclyde, I taught English as a second language in Gdansk, Poland for a year. I returned to the UK to complete a PGCE at the University of Manchester and then I worked in a grammar school in the UK for 5 years before moving to the Channel Islands, where I was Head of English in an independent girls’ school for 10 years. In 2012 we decided to enter the international scene and I moved with my family to China take up the position of SENCO at Nord Anglia’s British International School Shanghai, Puxi. Having thoroughly enjoyed the 2 years spent in Shanghai, I am now delighted I could return to Europe for the exciting role of Head of A1 Languages at BISB.

I am excited to be part of BISB, having taught English Language and Literature in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Egypt and China. This included four years, at The British International School in Shanghai, Puxi Campus where I taught KS3, IGCSE and IB Diploma classes. I enjoy seeing students challenge themselves, building their confidence, and expressing themselves creatively.

I have a Bachelor of Education majoring in English and History from the Australian Catholic University, and a Graduate Diploma in Communication, focusing on Media Arts and Production, from the University of Technology Sydney. I have also completed summer residential programs in English Literature at both Oxford and Cambridge Universities and have just finished a Master of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies with The University of Hong Kong.

I love reading, cinema, theatre, music, almost all arts, photography, hiking, and of course, travel. Having travelled to many exotic locations from Japan to North Africa I am definitely looking forward to exploring more of Europe!
