Dear Parents,
It has certainly been a challenging week with our first cases of COVID-19 amongst our community, as communicated to you all last weekend. These groups, individuals and classes have had separate communication as there is specific involvement and potential affect. This has also led to contact tracing and close contacts found who need to be quarantined for a period of time. I do hope that you have found our honest, open and clear communication informative and that it is serving to show how well prepared we are for any eventuality. We have to keep very fluid and adaptive as a school, some of the very skills we teach through our IB program and throughout the school. Just to reiterate if you do have any questions or concerns then please do ask us. Also, if you, or anyone at home, does test positive, could you please inform the school and then we can ensure that this group and close contacts are also quarantined.
On a much cheerier note, we are getting ever closer to the Christmas period and a time to celebrate. Of course, different to our usual Christmas time but nevertheless a time to rest, relax and reflect on times gone by. It is also a time to think about others, those less fortunate, those that we may be able to help and give a little smile to this holiday period. Our PTA, children and families are committed to supporting Casa da Criança and it is now time for their annual request for ‘Christmas Giving’. Then all you have to do is wrap the gift and bring to school before 10th December with the child’s name on, before collection and delivery.
This week saw the launch of the second Nord Anglia global student led podcast series called, ‘A Little Bit of Genius’. Nord Anglia students from around the globe host chats with an amazing line-up of guests, from a record-breaking explorer, to a Broadway performer, to Olympic gold medallists and more. The guests share their fascinating stories and the role resilience played in overcoming the challenges they faced. This second series of ‘A Little Bit of Genius’ continues with an episode featuring Ashley De La Rosa, a professional Broadway actress, singer and dancer who has starred in popular shows such as Hamilton, Rent and Mean Girls. This episode also touches on the ways that Ashley has been active in several social justice causes in her local community, including her work to help people vote in the US General Election. An alumni of one of our Nord Anglia Schools, Windermere Preparatory School in Florida, Ashley is interviewed by two current Windermere students named Michael and Emma who are both passionate about theatre. On Monday the whole of the Primary school enjoyed Odd Socks Day. Odd Socks Day is a UK based anti-bullying initiative, which is created by a TV presenter and musician called Andy and The Odd Socks, their video can be found by clicking here.
This event happens every year during Anti-bullying week. He releases a new song and sings about children being unique in their own ways. This year this also coincided with Nord Anglia’s theme of tolerance day. During the day, as well as wearing odd socks, the children enjoyed different activities like discussing the socks they chose, talking about bullying and ways we can be kind to each other and also creating a ‘Kids are United’ themed piece of artwork. I hope you enjoy looking through some of the artwork and photographs which can be found here and here.In a time of crisis, it is a timely reminder for all of us to be kind to each other, to support friends and colleagues who may be having a difficult time, and to reflect on how we can help others. It is time to share a metaphorical hug.
