Dear Parents,
This week we held our monthly Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting and have some great news to share and thanks to give. Our PTA is also an officially recognised body and will soon receive its CNPJ enabling them to have a bank account to efficiently deal with finances.
Claudine Paris and Libia Silva, two parents of Year 5 children, have worked tirelessly collecting old school uniform, mainly donated by families leaving BCB. Over 1000 pieces have been sorted, washed, and when the quality is good enough, had the Nord Anglia emblem sown on to them. I am delighted to share that they have raised over 6000 reais that will go into our charity account. This is an amazing service to our community. Providing lower cost, good quality Nord Anglia uniform and raising money for charity. Thank you so much.
One of the charities our PTA has supported before and throughout the pandemic has been Casa de Criança, a fantastic charity supporting children and families. I discovered that one family has paid for an additional month of food cards for the families we support. This is an amazing act of kindness that I wanted to recognise, even though the family want to remain anonymous. This shows the amount of care and good will that exists in our community so thank you whoever you are, we are proud to have you at our school.
I would like to end just by discussing our combined social responsibility. Whilst we all know from the news that the situation in Sao Paulo and Brazil is not improving, and in many aspects getting worse, it is worth a timely reminder to our community that we should all be taking care of each other.
As Principal of a school, along with our senior leadership team, we have faced some of the most challenging situations in our careers. We have sleepless nights considering decisions, all the time focusing on the 500 children, staff and families who we cater for and are responsible for. We take no decision lightly. If there is a possibility, however remote, that someone has contacted a member of our community who unfortunately may have contracted Covid-19, we will request quarantine for him and his family. We cannot take a risk of bringing a potential spread to our community. Yes, it is inconvenient, and yes, it is frustrating, but we have to keep everyone safe. I am experiencing quarantine this week and understand the challenges, but I cannot be responsible for potentially taking the virus into school. We also have to remember the community member is positive, and we always send our best wishes and support to them.
We also need you to be as careful as you can at home and wherever possible reduce contact with children in different families and year groups. This mixing potentially spreads the risk of the need for a larger quarantine after detailed contact tracing. We know you want your children to have interactions, sleepovers, all the normal things in life but we must try and face this pandemic together. If anyone is positive, please let school know. Together we can make ourselves safer and at less risk. We have a large shared social responsibility, let’s use it.
