The British College of Brazil Secondary Curriculum

At The British College of Brazil in São Paulo, we are committed to providing an industry-leading secondary curriculum, helping ensure that our children aged between 11 and 18 receive the best education and preparation for university and beyond as possible. After following a bespoke programme based on the English National Curriculum in Key Stage 3, students will study for globally renowned IGCSEs provided by the Cambridge University International Examinations Board.

We are also one of the finest IB schools in Brazil and encourage pupils to stay beyond their IGCSEs to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. This is the perfect springboard to help students book their place at the best universities around the world, helping them become critical thinkers and international, independent learners. Students study modules in Languages and Literature, Language Acquisition, Individual and Societies, Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts, as well as compulsory components Theory of Knowledge, an extended essay, and Creativity, Activity, Service.

At the heart of our work is helping our students develop and accomplish their aspirations. Our world class education offering embraces the very best teaching and learning philosophies.

Robust academic results are essential to success beyond The British College of Brazil, and our academic programme provides students with every opportunity to excel and reach their university of choice. Success in life, however, requires much more than good grades. It requires confidence, independence, presence, the ability to lead and the discipline to apply oneself. Our commitment to helping students develop these attributes is enshrined in our School Charter and relies on a rich and varied educational programme developed over many years.

Key Stage 3

In Key Stage 3, lessons are taught by a series of subject specialists with the class tutor having the important pastoral role of coordinating all aspects of the pupils’ academic and social development. The class tutor will normally also deliver the PSHE programme, which includes global citizenship and health education.

Specialist teachers deliver a balanced programme based on the English National Curriculum. Students study English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, History, Drama, Art, Computing, Music and PE. In addition, students choose to study at least one Modern Foreign Language.

Key Stage 4

In Years 10 and 11, students are able to choose subjects from a broad range of options in more depth. Our courses are provided by the UK Cambridge University International Examinations Board (CIE). This two year programme is globally recognised to be one of the best academically rigorous programmes for this age range of students and enables pupils to gain formally recognised IGCSE qualifications as a result.
