On 20 January 2020 we launched our LEAP programme for Semester 2 at Northbridge International School Cambodia, and over 200 students joined signed up for a variety of after school activities. With each new LEAP semester we try to offer new activities to excite and engage the students here at Northbridge. With this in mind, I’d like to showcase some of the new LEAP clubs we are offering this term.

Ms Rebecca, who teaches Grade 1, is running knitting club every Monday for Grade 5 students. Knitting Club is a great place to start if you’re looking to learn knitting basics. Ms. Rebecca has taught many people how to knit and is a patient teacher. Knitting has many benefits such as being a great way to unwind and cool off after a busy school day!

Another great way to unwind is by practising yoga. Teaching yoga to children is a wonderful way to guide them into a healthy lifestyle. Children go through a lot of physical exertion during their school day; yoga helps them calm down but also helps to build their strength This semester we are offering different yoga classes for different grades. Children in KG and Grade 1 can learn yoga basics with Ms. Lisa every Monday whilst other Primary and Secondary students can learn a more advanced level of yoga, taught by Art of Living.

Dance clubs have been incredibly popular here at Northbridge and for this reason we have decided to try and extend the range of genres we offer. This semester, Ms Mai from Trampoline Fly High will be teaching a KPop dance class. If you have never tried Kpop dance before and want to give it a go, this is the perfect class, as it is aimed at KPop for beginners. You will be taught the basic KPop routines and choreography to popular KPop music.

For the past few semesters we have offered Taekwondo lessons through LEAP. This semester we are also offering Karate, taught by ShimBuKai Karate Academy. Karate is a great way to support children in understanding self discipline, good manners and to help them to develop a growth mindset. ShimBuKai Karate Academy help their students to respect each other and learn honesty, humility and other qualities like determination and self-control. All of which are important skills in daily school life.

The final new club we are offering this semester is Aviation Club. In this club, children learn about the world of radio controlled flying and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, UAVs. Drones are an exciting use of technology that has captured the imagination of both children and adults in recent years. By nurturing aviation knowledge at an early stage, students will be inspired to seek careers in the exciting and emerging aviation industry as military/civil pilots, air traffic controllers, engineers and professional modelers!

If your child has not yet signed up for LEAP and is interested in an activity, please see Ms Hannah or the Finance Office as soon as possible!
