Innovative music curriculum at Collège Champittet in collaboration with The Julliard School

From September 2016 students at Collège Champittet will have the unique opportunity to benefit from an innovative collaboration between Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School.

Established in 1905 and based in New York City, The Julliard School is a world renowned performing arts conservatory offering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in music, dance and drama. More than 800 artists from around the world are currently enrolled at The Julliard School.

The collaboration between Juilliard and Nord Anglia Education is designed to enhance Collège Champittet’s performing arts offering with its innovative structure, design and approach. The new embedded arts curriculum, which focuses first on music, was developed by curriculum and music experts at both Juilliard and Nord Anglia Education.

The music curriculum is designed for all students, not just those who are serious about learning an instrument or musical performance. Students will discover music by using and learning keyboards. The programme is based around a repertoire of 12 core works covering a wide range of cultures andgenres, each of which has been carefully chosen by Juilliard to open the door to categories of music and fundamentals essential for all young people to know and experience.

Joseph W. Polisi, President at the Juilliard School, said, “We believe that performing arts should have a significant role within today’s global educational environment.  We can reach students from around the world to cultivate their skills and help guide them in their future growth."

Ultimately, the curriculum aims to nurture cultural literacy and develop key skills in students, such as discipline, creativity and confidence which are important skills to have to be able to take up challenges and succeed anywhere in the world.
