JK Wheelchair Fundraiser

Dear Families of Léman, 

Thank you to your support of Junior kindergarten fundraiser to raise money for children who need wheel chairs. The scooter races were exciting and it was wonderful to see the support of the whole school，including the seniors who entered the races and assisted with raising more money.

We raised a total of 5864RMB with the assistance of Fuyong the school nurse.We were able to purchase 25 wheel chairs with a lifetime guarantee, for children and teenagers with metal and physical disabilities. Before they had access to the wheelchairs donated by JK and Léman families,the patients who received the wheelchairs wereconfined to bed for a long period of time.

On Friday the 11th of May Lauren, Felipe, Jill and Fuyong, went to visit the Chengdu Jinxin Mental Hospital where the wheel chairs were donated. They were shown around the facilities. Then they had their more rewarding and challenging experience. They were able to meet the children who now had wheel chairs.

Lauren Swanson, our teacher said "It was my first time to visit the mental hospital. I wanted to see and meet the children we helped. They were excited to be moving around, they were able to eat at the table with the community instead of being stuck in bed . It was precious to see them smile, sing songs and to make them happy. We know that we and the Léman students have made a significant change to improve the quality of life for these children from 2 years of age to teenagers at the Jinxin Mental Hospital." 

There is still significant need. The hospital has 1000 patients 60 of whom are bedridden. So currently they are sharing and rotating the wheelchairs between patients and floors of the hospital. Our school's goal for the coming year is to raise more money enough for more wheel chairs to be purchased. So they have enough for each bedridden person to have full time access to them, with 5 extra in case of new patients.

In order to help these vulnerable groups on a long-term basis, we will collect the following items for donation to the mental hospital. Please check the list for items we can accept and need for donations. Once donations accumulate in the nurses' office, donations will be delivered to the mental hospital. 

Currently we need below items：

• 各种类型的鞋（成人和儿童的均可，不要高跟鞋）Various shoes (both for adults and Children, no high heel shoes)

• 各种类型的衣物（成人和儿童的均可）Various clothes (both for adults and Children)

• 帽子、围巾、手套、袜子 Hats, Scarves, gloves, socks

• 床单 bed sheets

• 中文图书   books in Chinese

• 画图本  notebooks and painting books

• 各种类型的笔 various pens, pencils and colorful markers

• 玩具 Toys

• 简单的体育用品（皮球，乒乓球，羽毛球等）Simple PE resources (table tennis, badminton and various balls)

• 非易腐类食品：芝麻糊、米糊、饼干、奶粉、儿童糖果等）Non-perishable Food Items: sesame Paste，Rice Paste, Milk Powder, Cookies, Candy

• 洗护用品如：牙膏，牙刷，沐浴皂，洗发水/护发素，乳液 Toiletries such as: Toothpaste, Tooth brushes, Body Soap, Shampoo/Conditioner, Lotion

A message from the Chengdu Jinxin Mental Hospital.

Dear Léman International School,
Our mental hospital has nearly one thousand patients who are suffering from mental problems, their spiritual world is almost empty. But still they want to live a quality life. Many patients are lacking of clothing, because of poor financial situation and their special illness (sometimes their clothing is damaged). We get great help from many kind people.

Today we are so touched because of you, dear Léman International School. You provided 25 wheel chairs. And before today you have donated clothing and food for many times. We, all patients, family members and staff are appreciating your great charity.

These new wheel chairs help our patients a lot. It is more convenient for them to go downstairs to have physical exercises, and participate. Thank you very much for your great help! Your charity helps our patients, at the same time, we are enjoying the harmony of our society, the warm of our world. Our hospital will transmit these kind charity continuously, to make our society fulfill with love and thanks!
