Originally from Canada, Erika has been teaching internationally for over five years in both Vietnam and China. This is her third year teaching at Léman International School in the Early Years program. Erika is currently a homeroom teacher in the Nursery division.
While completing her Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Windsor, Erika participated in the Reciprocal Learning Program. Here she completed educational research for three months in Chongqing, China comparing the classroom management techniques of Chinese and Canadian teachers. It was during this experience that Erika developed a deep curiosity and respect for Chinese culture and language. In her spare time, Erika enjoys taking basic Mandarin courses (listening and speaking). Throughout her career Erika has strived to participate in professional development opportunities. She has completed additional qualifications part I and II of Teaching English as a Second Language and hopes to become a specialist in this area of teaching and learning.
Erika strongly believes that young children learn best through play, hands-on experiences, and fun. Early Years teaching has been the perfect place to put these beliefs into practice. As a teacher, she strives to create an environment where students feel supported, engaged, and happy. At Léman, Early Years students are given the freedom to learn through play while immersed in a literacy rich environment.
