Alec graduated from St Mary’s University in London with a bachelor's degree in Education Studies and completed his training by gaining Qualified Teacher Status through Middlesex University. Mr. Riley began his teaching career in Thailand, where he lived and taught for over eight years. It was here that he fell in love with international education. He returned to the UK in 2014 and taught in the state sector for three years, gaining experience in all primary year groups before joining Léman in early 2018. Alec believes that the key to successful learning is designing fun and engaging activities that enable children to enjoy their learning. He believes a happy child is a child that will learn. He also believes that reading plays a central and vital part of a child’s education, so aims to instil in every child a lifelong love of books and reading. He agrees with one of his favourite authors, Stephen King when he says:
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
Alec is enjoying his time here in Chengdu, getting to grips with Chinese and seeing all the sights that the city has to offer. Alec enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, Austin and Abigail, who are studying at the school in Year 4 and Year 2 respectively. In his free time, Alec enjoys eating out, watching rugby, travel, reading and photography.
