Ben graduated from Oregon State with an Education degree in 2005, with a minor in Spanish. Fourteen years later he has worked in four very different schools and countries: Colegio Americano in Mexico, Moonkkang Academy in South Korea, Lertlah School in Thailand, and Léman International School in China. This range of experience has allowed him to observe various educational approaches and to observe which practices succeed and which fail.
From learning through play and student directed learning to teaching for standardized testing. One teaches students how to think, the other what to think. It is hsi ambition to discover better methods to ensure he stays true to this best of practices. Teaching at Léman has offered Ben many opportunities to continue to improve his professional development in this, both inside and outside the classroom.
Outside of school Ben has many hobbies, a few of which he is able to bring into the school. He has been teaching dance clubs & classes, coaching the ACAMIS and CISA swim teams, supporting the concerts, and also coaching/judging the CISA chess team since 2015 at Léman.
Since moving to Sichuan, Ben has had the privilege to trek a few of the endless valleys and mountain ranges that make up this beautiful province. He has been married for 7 years. He and his wife enjoy dancing every week together and try to spend one vacation a year exploring the underwater paradises of Indonesia.
