An Amazing Day Celebrating Student Learning

ES Celebration of Learning and Grade 5 Invention Convention

Thank you to all of the families who came out to campus last Friday morning to share in a very special day in our elementary school community.  The Celebration of Learning is a time for students to show off all that they have been discovering throughout the year and highlight some of their favorite learning experiences to their families.  It was easy to see a sense of pride in the students as they shared their learning with their families and friends and giving our students the opportunity to do so is fundamental in creating a learning institution that foster’s student agency, voice, and choice in their learning.  We hope you enjoyed the day!

ES Field Day!

June 6 (Thursday)

It is that time again!  EC/ES Field day will be held Thursday, June 6 throughout the CDS campus.  Students will be enjoying 10 fun filled stations, including water stations, team competitions, and even a ZIP LINE!!!  The school is also offering a picnic lunch for the students to enjoy laying out on the green and enjoying themselves with their friends and teachers.

This year we ask that the students where the following T-shirt colors in order to identify them with their Field Day teams:  (the A,B,C, or D referes to the section of the grade level, for example 1A,2A,3A,4A,5A wears blue)

ES Grades 1-4 Music Extravaganza!!

Friday, May 24 - 8:30-9:45 (Broadcast Live on FacebookLive)

Please do not forget to make time for Ms. Whitehead’s final performance before she returns home to the US!  This semester’s concert is shaping up to be one of the best yet! Make sure you arrive early as seating is limited and we are expecting a sell out crowd.  If you will not be in Costa Rica for the performance but would like to see it, log into Facebook Live to see the show anywhere in the world!

**Important:  Ms. Whitehead sent out emails to each grade level detailing dress for the show.  Please email her directly if you have any questions on what your child should be wearing for the show at annalee_whitehead@cds.ed.cr.  See you there!!

News from the Panther Den

We had another big week with the CDS elementary sports teams.

The Lady Panthers traveled to St. Paul school this past Friday morning where they played a tough St. Paul team but came out on top by a score of 4-0.  We are proud of our Lady Panthers and hope that you’ll come cheer them on next season as well.

In other news, the grade 3 and 4 boys team lost a heartbreaker to St. Jude but had a great time in the competition.  The grade 5 boys team split decisions with St. Jude, winning their first game and then yielding their second. Today, the Lady Panthers continue their streak at St. Paul.  We will have updated information next week on their progress.

Movin’ Up!!

It is hard to believe that our grade 5 students are already getting ready to make the transition to middle school.  When I first became the principal of the elementary school back in January of 2017, these students were just starting their second semester of third grade!  We have all come a long way during that time and we have worked tirelessly to ensure that our ES students have a smooth transition into middle school. In that same spirit, we are partnering with MS principal James Tucker and MS counselor Isabel Urrutia to have a grade 5 transition day this coming Thursday, May 23.

The idea is to introduce the students to Mr. Tucker and Ms. Urrutia and  some of the current grade 6 students, so that they have some familiar faces when they enter grade 6 in a few short months.  The morning will consist of a short charla with Mr. Tucker, some games with the grade 6 students and end with a brief tour of the middle school and getting to meet the grade 6 teachers.  We are excited about this event and aim for it to ease the transition that our students will be going through.
