Country Day School - Gabriel Castro

Mathematics Teacher

Peace and love everyone! I am excited to be joining the CDS family as a high school mathematics teacher. I was born and raised in Connecticut, a state on the east coast of the United States. Growing up, I spoke English and Spanish since my mother is Puerto Rican and my father is Colombian. I received my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut (UConn) and then began my career teaching internationally.

During my time at UConn, I worked with first-year students transitioning from high school to college. Similar to the advisory, the idea was to create an environment where students could build relationships and learn techniques to help them not only survive, but thrive at the university. Additionally, I served as a coach for UConn Connects, a program designed to work with students on academic probation or simply looking to improve their GPA.

Upon graduating, I originally set off on my quest to teach internationally to explore my roots and cultural background. Having taught mathematics to grades 7 - 12 over the past 5 years in both Puerto Rico and Colombia, I am thankful to have been able to do just that. In doing so, it has sparked my love for traveling, hiking, and running. With this being said, I am looking forward to continuing to grow and learning at CDS.
